There are many types of in-home workouts possible at our apartments in Tulsa, so we’ve gathered a list of some of the most versatile items. Whether you’re focusing on cardio, strength training, yoga, or something else, these key items should help empower your most convenient and most effective in-home workout.
A Pair of Dumbbells
Dumbbells aren’t just essential for traditional weight lifting exercises, they’re also a great tool to up the ante on your body weight exercises like lunges, squats, Russian twists, etc. Dumbbells are so popular for in-home workouts that many folks spent months of 2020 unable to find reasonably priced dumbbells online, but that circumstance is beginning to wane and dumbbells are once again widely available at online stores.
An adjustable dumbbell set is perfect when you’re trying to accommodate the widest variety of exercises, but if you can’t find or afford an adjustable set, you can opt for a single pair of dumbbells (10-20 pounds will offer decent versatility) or a single kettle-bell (15-30 pounds is a good range to start with).
A Pair Of Resistance Bands
Resistance bands are a popular low-impact workout tool with tons of versatility. Like dumbbells, resistance bands offer many ways to up the challenge level of many body-weight exercises like squats, bridges, and wall sits.
For an affordable option that offers decent versatility, we recommend buying just one short band and one long band. Most brands color code their bands for different resistance levels. We recommend starting with a band that offers around 20 to 30 pounds of resistance.
A Tall Box (or Sturdy Coffee Table)
A tall sturdy box, coffee table, or even a chair offers additional workout versatility to help keep things interesting. We recommend using something that provides good solid traction on the floor (i.e. won’t slide out from under you) and is about 12 to 16 inches in height.
Whatever you choose, this sort of tool will give you the option of step-ups, tricep dips, incline push-ups, rear foot elevated lunges, and plyometric exercises like box jumps and pop-overs.
A Yoga Mat
A yoga mat is essential for yoga, but it can also make many exercises more comfortable, especially ones that involve lying or sitting on the floor. We recommend one with some friction on the bottom so it won’t slide around on the floor. Beyond that, there are lots of different varieties to try, from extra-plush squishy mats to very thin, firm mats so we recommend reading reviews and finding one that works for your workout style.
